“Don’t Let Me down” Choir vocals ring through the speakers before the boom-bap-clap of the beat begins, creating an inspiring scene for Hijax’s first verse. “Don’t let me down now I’ve climbed too high/and there ain’t no turning back like a one way sign”, his first couple lines set the tone for the rapper’s motivating flow. Intricate metaphors and similes are used to describe feelings as Hijax seems to be reassuring himself, and decisions that got him to where he is now. He continues on a calm and calculated rhythm, only sometimes letting his energy and intensity bleed through. He ends his verse with “Don’t let me down now”. The choir continues, bridging between rappers, until JHK picks up right where Hijax left off. Immediately the contrast between the two is recognized, with JHK’s flow containing a more disheartened emotion. Still, his desire and drive is shown, while he raps about dissatisfaction with loud mouths and false promises; “what you’re saying sounds great/but your actions are never loud”. His lyrics show a transparent side of the Mass Conformity rapper, admitting “I just stare at the beast/can hardly breathe/getting harder with each breath” before ending his verse with “Just let me down”. Once again the choir rings through, before the beat stops, and the guitar begins. With the switch-up of the beat, and the entire ambience, Hijax returns with a much more energetic excitement, as if he’s trying to encourage JHK after his previous verse. From rock bottom, Hijax builds upon each line throughout the last verse; “the fall down is tough/but the bounce back isn’t lighter/or easier in the slightest”. He speaks on his diligence and eagerness to get to “the top”. The rapper continues through the end of the song, repeating “how did I make it out of my grave/I was about to give up but something in me made a change/won’t go down without a fight/MC bound to win this time”.
